Firefighter: Remember This |

|
This—wildland firefighter Andy Palmer's tragedy on the Iron Complex Fire—is the story of how we arrived at today's Dutch Creek Protocol guidelines for emergency medical response and extractions. The video's conclusion stresses the importance of three key questions: "1) What will we do if someone gets hurt? 2) How will we get them out of here? 3) How long will it take to get them to the hospital?" This is our second production in this year's "Firefighter: Remember This" video series.

Two More Chains |

|
The cover story of our Fall 2011 issue focuses on wildland firefighters' reluctance to use their fire shelters. Why does this happen? What can we do about this fire shelter deployment "stigma"? Also in this issue: firefighter Brian Hicks shares key lessons learned from his 2011 entrapment experience; tips for calling in your position—describing Lat/Longs correctly; and readers are asked: "Do you fight fire like you drive?"

Quick Response (QR) Codes
Have you ever wondered about these square barcode-like symbols that seem to be popping up everywhere from newsletters to Web sites to product marketing? Known as "Quick Response Codes" or "QR Codes," they are quickly becoming a powerful tool due to their small size and easy readability. To read these special squares, all you need is a smartphone with a working camera and an application (app) like Google Goggles or Mobile Tag. The LLC is now implementing this technology on newsletters and several other products. In the coming months, we will continue to expand on this capability. So keep your eyes open and your smartphones ready.

The LLC has officially joined YouTube and we encourage everyone to subscribe to our channel. We are currently migrating all of our videos from MyFireVideos.net to our new YouTube channel and will continue this transition over the next few months. While MyFireVideos will still remain available during this process, no new content will be added to this site. If you want to stay up-to-date with our most current video products, YouTube is the place to go.

This new capability provides you with a vehicle for sharing specific successes, challenges, and lessons that you have experienced in the field. The button leads you to a form that allows you to input an event name, date, location, narrative and a few other categories that will help the LLC staff create a user-friendly document.
